Narnia-Costume Designs III by CaribbeanMouse Narnia-Costume Designs III by CaribbeanMouse
Aaaaand a few more. I just went ahead and uploaded the whole sheet this time, even though I didn't colour two of them. I left the Battle outfit and rusty red dress on there, just for the heck of it...plus, I had nothing better to take their places.

Anyways, now you can see what I do for costume design sheets...lol I just keep a sheet of base forms on the computer, and print a new one off when I need one. It saves me time and frustration if I just have a design I want to get down, so I don't have to take the time to draw a human every time. Because frankly...drawing humans takes waaaay too much time for me. Dresses, however, take minutes.

Opinions?

EDIT: Ha...just realized I left my handwriting on there for once...lol well, there you go. A brief and inconclusive look into whatever stories of her I have in my head.

If it's alright, may I use the red dress in a portrait of Jill? These are just amazing, and I could totally imagine them in the movies! :D

I like the blue dress (the last one one on the bottom row) and the red dress (middle of the top row)! I would definitely wear those!

I will try!

[link] is sometimes helpful.

I've also been known to browse through [link] to get ideas/see how other people have done costumes.

[link] <-- is a Narnia costume site, but worth a look at...

That's about the best I can do. I haven't really used a lot of websites, to be honest. Some books I would recommend, though, are the Art of the Lord of the Rings books. Looking through the designs in there inspired me a lot when I first got those books.

Sorry I can't be of more help!

Awesome costume designs! I think my favorite is the dress on the bottom right. Wow, I wish I could design costumes like this. The proportions are very good, as well. :) Good job!

You are my hero!
Thanks!
When I get back to school tomorrow, i'm going to the library; their computers have Photoshop on them. I intend to experiment a bit.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

I have another question for you.
You use photoshop right?
How do you color these pictures in?

Hey! Yep, I do use photoshop.
I'm not sure what specifics you're after...I use a tablet and a lot of layers. Any particular effect you're after?

Don't you use the same process to color all of your pics? The color style seems o be the same to me. I guess I wanna know how you did these two:

This looks like a pretty simple color job. Course, I could be wrong.

I use essentially the same thing, yes, for most. A few (like Peacock Queen or Reggie) I experimented a little. Those two are very simple though.

Mmkay. I do my lineart in pencil, scan it in. I use the Levels (Image>Adjustments>Levels) to clean up the lineart a bit, then merge the levels layer down into the base layer. Then, I copy the lineart layer, and set that layer to "Multiply" Then I do any colouring layers underneat the Multiply-Lineart layer.

With Unlikely Alliance, the colours were pretty straightforward. Most complicated thing I did was the shine in Nick's hair, which I think was probably a Effects>Gaussian Blur deal. (I didn't even remember not shading that...lol I should fix that.)

With the Narnia costume designs, the same is true of all but the Coronation gown. That one, I dimmed the colours using Opacity to get the colours I wanted.

That's...pretty much the jist of it. You're right, those are both pretty simple colouring jobs. :)

Hope that helps a bit...

I love that you've designed your own Narnian attire! Priceless! I think I might have to play copycat and do the same for myself :D

I love the designs on the last one. And the sleeves.

what are the things on the rusty dress's sleeves? They almost look like bracelets but I can't really tell.

Um...ssh, don't tell: I have no idea.
...I think the original idea was like...sleeve cuffs...but no, no clue. oO;

I am especially fond of the first dress on the bottom row, although I think it would be more flattering if it were in darker colors. It takes a lot of imagination to design costumes, and these are beautiful!

Thank you so much for the feedback! :)

What colours, though, do you think? I think if I hit reds or too deep of blues it would overwhelm a little, but do you think keep it green/yellow but try darker? I have such issues with colour schemes some days.

Hm, maybe a deeper green? Navy blue might be something interesting to play around with too.

The bottom right one is really stunning! Although, I think I like the red tones on her better. :)

Hehe, and I agree, you're method is a lot easier (And better) when costume designing for one character. ^^
